The Light We Carried
Sepharad is the Hebrew name for the Iberian Peninsula, where Jewish life flourished for more than a thousand years. When the expulsions came in the 1490s, families left with what they could carry: their names, their recipes, their prayers. And their light.
Luz de Sefarad, "Light of Sepharad," is our tribute to that inheritance. A hanukkiah in deep plum, all nine flames lit, the shamash standing tall at the center. Around it, a retro border of interlocking leaves in terracotta, ochre, and plum, set on warm cream.
Woven into a generous 54" x 60" throw, it's made for the first night on the couch, and every night after.
What's in the design
- Nine flames: the eighth night, the whole miracle
- The shamash: the helper flame that lights all the others
- "Luz": light, in Ladino, Spanish, and Portuguese alike
Why you'll love it
- Heritage first, holiday second: it stays out long after Hanukkah
- An earthy palette made for a real living room, not just a holiday display
- Big enough for two on the couch (negotiations may apply)
- Machine washable, because latkes happen
Perfect for
- Hanukkah gifting, especially for the family that already owns every menorah
- Housewarmings, new homes, and first apartments
- Anyone with Sephardic roots, or a love for the story
- The sofa, the foot of the bed, or the back of a reading chair
Details
- Size: 54" x 60"
- Material: woven cotton/polyester blend
- Finished, fringed edges
- Care: machine wash
- A Nova Nostalgia Original Design
Some lights burn for eight nights. This one stays on.
