Let There Be Light

Or (אור) is one of the first words spoken in the Torah: yehi or, "let there be light." It's also inside Hanukkah's other name, Chag HaUrim, the Festival of Lights. One small word, doing a lot of work.

This design is our tribute to the late Yaacov Agam, the Israeli pioneer of kinetic art whose bands of color seem to shift as you walk past. (He also designed the giant menorah lit every Hanukkah at Grand Army Plaza in Manhattan.) Here, that spirit becomes a hanukkiah built from vivid stripes of cobalt, violet, tangerine, green, and gold, all nine flames lit, beneath the word אור in bold pinstriped Hebrew. The whole thing sits on a soft sky-blue panel.

Woven into a generous 54" x 60" throw, it's made for the first night and every night after.
